No chance for Russian occupation of Kyiv, says Blinken

Russia will never succeed in occupying Kyiv, U.S. Secretary of State Antony Blinken said in an interview with French channels LCI/TF1 on April 2.

Responding to a question about whether the U.S. can ensure that Russians will never seize Ukraine and Kyiv, Blinken said, "I am convinced we already have."

"In other words, it is not happening, it’s never going to happen."

The U.S. believed there was a possibility of Kyiv falling at the beginning of the Russian full-scale invasion in 2022, he said.

"But thanks to the incredible resistance of the Ukrainian people, and thanks also to the support given to Ukraine by the United States, France, and other countries, Putin’s desire to conquer the whole country, to wipe it off the map, to make it part of a greater Russia, has not materialized and it won’t," Blinken said.

After the liberation of Kyiv Oblast, about 621 miles of fortifications were built around the capital and three defense rings were created to prevent a new sudden Russian offensive, Commander of the Ukrainian Ground Forces Oleksandr Pavliuk said on March 31.
