NNPD hosting two more Vehicle Theft Prevention events for May

NEWPORT NEWS, Va. (WAVY) – The Newport News Police Department is hosting two more Vehicle Theft Prevention events for the month of May.

According to Newport News police, 146 vehicles were serviced during the first Vehicle Theft Prevention event held several weeks ago.

The next available crime prevention event is scheduled on Saturday, May 11 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. at Calvary Chapel Newport News. The second event will be on Sunday, May 19 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the United Jewish Community Center.

While at the events, citizens will be able to have their vehicle identification numbers engraved on their catalytic converters and etched into their window glass. Hyundai owners will also be able to receive a free steering wheel lock.

Police will also go over anti-theft information, and free gun locks will be available upon request while supplies last.

Newport News residency is not required to attend, but vehicle registration is required.
