Dog named Tater rescued from tree by Newport News firefighters

NEWPORT NEWS, Va. (WAVY) – You might have heard of a cat getting stuck in a tree, but what about a dog?

Crews with the Newport News Fire Department (NNFD) assisted animal control on Wednesday after a dog, Tater, climbed up a tree while chasing a cat.

When Ladder 2 arrived to the scene, Tater was stuck about 20 feet in the air. Senior Firefighter John Pearson and Firefighter Elijah Taylor worked to get Tater safely to the ground.

According to NNFD, the cat was able to climb down on its own moments after Tater was rescued.

Pearson suffered a minor cut above his eye during the rescue, while Tater was able to leave the scene injury free.
