NMSU women end regular season with upset win over FIU

MIAMI, Florida – The New Mexico State women’s basketball team closed out its regular season with a 65-56 upset win over Florida International at the Ocean Bank Convocation Center on Saturday.

New Mexico State was led by Molly Kaiser, as the product out of Watauga, Texas dropped a game-high 20 points on 9-of-17 shooting from the floor. Tylie Jones pitched in 11 points and Fanta Gassama dropped 10 points in the Aggies’ win. As a team, NMSU shot 49% from the floor, knocking down 24-of-49 shots. Aggies were money from the free throw line as it cashed in 16-of-19 shots. NMSU struggled to knock down shots from deep, going 1-of-9 from beyond the arc. New Mexico State’s effort on the glass stood as the Aggies out rebounded FIU 38-21 overall.

New Mexico State will head into the Conference USA Tournament with a good amount of confidence as the Aggies just beat one of the top teams in the league on its own home floor. These two teams will see each other again very soon. NMSU, as a six-seed, will go head-to-head against three-seed FIU next Thursday in the quarterfinals of the CUSA Tournament in Huntsville, Alabama.
