NMSU baseball win seventh straight game after run-rule victory over Prairie View A&M

LAS CRUCES, New Mexico (KTSM) – New Mexico State baseball played its way to a 12-2 win over Prairie View A&M in the series finale at Presley Askew Field on Sunday.

NMSU starting pitcher Hayden Walker earned the win as he would throw for five innings only giving up six hits and one earned run. Walker did not walk a single batter but managed to strike out four.

New Mexico State started off the game by scoring four runs in the first inning. Mitch Namie and Edwin Martinez-Pagani both drew walks with the bases loaded to give NMSU a 2-0 lead to start out. Later in the inning, Austin Corbett had a two-run single to cap off NMSU’s four run inning to open the game.

In the third inning, Sheehan O’Connor recorded an RBI-single, bringing in Namie. Martinez-Pagani then brought in O’Connor with an RBI-double. Keith Jones II brought in the final run of the inning with an RBI-single. NMSU was up 7-0 after four frames of play.

In the top of the fifth, Prairie View A&M collected its first two runs of the game.

NMSU responded in the bottom of the fifth with a RBI-single by Damone Hale. Nick Gore then drew another bases loaded walk.

In the bottom of the sixth the Aggies just needed two more runs to go up by ten over the Panthers. With bases loaded yet again the Damone Hale was walked to score the first run of the inning. On the second run of the inning Dumitru grounded into a double play but still managed to drive in a run.

New Mexico State would go onto grab a 12-2 run-rule win over Prairie View A&M. It’s the second time in the series NMSU run-ruled Prairie View A&M. NMSU has collected four run-rule wins in its last five games.

Up next, NMSU (9-6) will take its seven-game winning streak to Lubbock, Texas and take on No. 17 Texas Tech. The two-game series begins on Tuesday.
