NJ high school teacher accused of hitting girl while trying to stop fight: prosecutor

BAYONNE, N.J. (PIX11) — A high school teacher in Bayonne, New Jersey, was arrested on Friday for allegedly hitting a female student on school property, according to the Hudson County prosecutor’s office.

Two students got into a fight on Jan. 22 and multiple staff members intervened, officials said. During the melee, teacher Joseph Mingoia, 68, punched a female student in the head, according to officials.

Mingoia was placed on administrative leave after the incident. He was later arrested on charges of endangering the welfare of a child in the second degree, simple assault and a disorderly person offense, officials said.
