Nissan Debuts Xmotion Concept SUV at 2018 Detroit Auto Show
In Detroit, this week, Nissan gave the press a look at what may be the future Rogue or Pathfinder on steroids in the form of its Xmotion Concept SUV. The 6-passenger, three-row Nissan Xmotion (pronounced Cross Motion) combines Japanese craft and design themes and American utility in a vehicle with the latest Nissan Intelligent Mobility technology.
Rugged, powerful proportions are wrapped in a warm silver Xmotion Concept on display at the 2018 North American International Auto Show in Detroit that combines western and eastern cultural themes with advanced connectivity. On the outside, Nissan expresses simplicity with U-shaped character highlights and Nissan’s signature V-motion grille and blade-like headlights. The Xmotion Concept rides atop 21-in. aluminum-alloy crafted wheels that are integrated with all-terrain tires. A long-wheelbase utility, with a wide stance and doors that swing out to open, Xmotion includes a retractable rooftop box and playful tail light design that is inspired by Japanese wooden puzzles.
Inside the Xmotion Concept is designed to provide room for a family with two children and/or pets. Reflecting nature, the Japanese simplified interior was designed with the image of a river on the cabin floor and the center console as a wooden bridge. Traditional Japanese interior design elements are incorporated in all cabin themes. The instrument panel and U-shaped steering wheel are also a modern interpretation that features Japanese wood construction, emphasizing what Nissan officials describe as strength and trust. Interior colors are scarlet, white and black—symbolic of the sun, cleanliness, and intensity. Japanese patterns and craft prevail in trim and design elements even on the backs of seats.
In contrast to the simplistic, natural, Japanese traditional designs, the Xmotion Concept also includes the latest advanced driver and passenger assistance technology throughout the SUV that is controlled by gestures, eye movement and voice. The cockpit houses seven digital screens with three main displays and left and right displays that span the width of the instrument panel. There’s even a digital mirror in the ceiling and a display in the center console.
