Nissan adds single cab to revamped Titan truck lineup
Nissan is expanding its Titan full-size pickup truck lineup for 2017 with a new single cab model largely aimed at commercial users.
The automaker will offer the Titan Single Cab in both standard and XD configurations. Although the two configurations share a cab design, interior, and 8-foot bed, the XD uses a stronger frame designed to give it a higher payload capacity for more heavy duty use.

The new Titan Single Cab has the same 139.8-inch wheelbase and 228.1-inch overall length as the Titan Crew Cab. However, the Titan XD Single Cab checks in at 231 inches from head to toe, nearly a foot shorter overall than the Titan XD Crew Cab.
Payload capacities are up for the Titan Single Cab compared to the Crew Cab:
- The Titan Single Cab maxes out at 1,930 pounds compared to 1,610 pounds for the Crew Cab.
- The Titan XD Single Cab maxes out at 2,910 pounds compared to 2,590 for the XD Crew Cab.
- When properly equipped, the Titan Single Cab can tow a 9,730 pound trailer compared to 9,390 for the Crew Cab.
- When properly equipped, the Titan XD Single Cab can tow a 12,640 pound trailer compared to 12,314 for the Crew Cab.
Nissan says that the base Titan Single Cab comes standard with a V-6 gasoline engine, but the automaker hasn't released any details about that motor. Optional on the base Titan and standard on the Titan XD is a 5.6-liter V-8 rated at 390 horsepower. Titan XD buyers can up the game further with an available 5.0-liter turbodiesel V-8 designed by Cummins and rated at 310 hp and an impressive 555 lb-ft of torque.
The gas V-6 and V-8 engines will be mated exclusively to a 7-speed automatic, while a 6-speed automatic comes with the turbodiesel.
Since the Titan Single Cab is positioned more toward work-oriented buyers than the Crew Cab, Nissan says it will only offer the two-door trucks in the lower-rung S and SV trim levels. Both 4x2 and 4x4 powertrains will be available.
