Nighttime burglars steal $8,500 in lawn care equipment from Berks store

Apr. 12—Burglars stole chainsaws, gas-powered trimmers, a pressure washer and other power equipment worth a combined $8,500 from a Mertztown equipment business, state police reported Monday.

The break-in occurred shortly before 1:30 a.m. Friday at Bowers Sales & Rentals, 365 Fleetwood Road, Maxatawny Township.

Troopers responded to a burglar alarm at that time and found the front window of the business had been broken.

Stolen were five gas-powered Stihl chainsaws, a Husqvarna pressure washer, eight Stihl string trimmers and three Stihl leaf blowers/vacuums.

Anyone with information about the crime is asked to call Trooper John Reiter at the Hamburg station at 610-562-6885.
