Nighttime Bay Bridge lane closures go into effect Wednesday

(KRON) — Lanes will be closed on the Bay Bridge on Wednesday and Thursday nights for road repairs, Caltrans said.

Starting on Wednesday at 11 p.m. and going until Thursday at 5 a.m., two eastbound lanes of the bridge will be closed, along with the Essex Street on-ramp.

The next day during the same timeframe, two westbound lanes of the bridge will be closed.

The closures are due to “emergency waterline repairs and fire extinguisher replacements,” Caltrans said. The lanes will reopen in time for morning commute traffic.

While the Essex Street on-ramp is closed on Wednesday night/Thursday morning, the 5th Street and Bryant & Sterling Street on-ramps will remain open.

Messages and signs will direct drivers during the closures.

Eastbound lanes of the bridge were also closed for months in 2023 as Caltrans installed a sprinkler system in the Yerba Buena Tunnel.
