Nightmare Neighbour's £14,000 Fine Over ‘Eyesore’ Garden With 20 TONNES Of Rubbish

A ‘nightmare’ homeowner has been handed a £14,000 bill by council workers who had to clean up 20 tonnes of trash from their garden.

Canoes, rusting cars and a filthy paddling pool were among the bizarre items abandoned behind the semi-detached home in Knighton, Leicestershire.

Following complaints by neighbours, Leicester City Council and police officials were left with no option but to remove the rubbish after repeated appeals to the homeowner were ignored.

The eyesore property was a dumping ground to 20-tonnes of rubbish.

The nightmare neighbour was handed the clearn-up bill for the operation - which took two days last month to clear.

A council spokesman said: ‘This included three disused cars and over 10 tonnes of construction waste, scrap metal and wood.’

Assistant city mayor with responsibility for planning enforcement councillor Piara Singh Gill said: ‘In cases like this, it is vital we take action in the interests of other residents and send a clear message that eyesores like this will not be tolerated.’

The £14,000 operation is being charged back to the owner.

Knighton ward councillor Lynn Moore said: “It was a nightmare for the neighbours who were trying to sell their house.

She added: "This demonstrates what can be achieved when councillors the local police beat officer and council officials work closely together.
