LAGOS, Nigeria (AP) — The leader of a radical Islamist sect threatens the wives of Nigerian government officials in a new Internet video.

In a video uploaded Sunday to YouTube, the leader of the extremist group known as Boko Haram says the Nigerian government is now holding 10 wives of members of the sect. The leader, Abubakar Shekau, alleges that the wives had been raped by Nigerian security forces.

In the video, Shekau laughs and says: "You should wait and see what's going to happen to your own wives."

The Associated Press could not immediately authenticate the video Monday, but it appeared to be from the sect.

Shekau repeatedly denied that Boko Haram is in peace talks with Nigeria's government. He also denied that the group's spokesman had been killed by the military.
