Niemerg wins, Acklin concedes in write-in Republican primary race

DIETERICH, Ill. (WCIA) — An incumbent state representative has declared victory in his odd primary election race.

Adam Niemerg and his challenger Jim Acklin both ran as write-in candidates. Niemerg was kicked off the ballot for failing to notarize his candidate paperwork.

Niemerg posted on Facebook Wednesday, declaring victory.

“We Won!” the post reads. “Thank you to the best district in the state! God Bless.

Acklin conceded in a Facebook post Thursday afternoon.

“This election has come to an end and I would like to congratulate Adam Niemerg on his victory in the 102nd district and wish him well for the upcoming November general election,” Acklin wrote.

Acklin also said it was a tough road to victory as a write-in candidate. He said he will continue to be a voice for Illinois’ public education system.

No Democratic candidate ran in the primary for the election.
