Jan 13 (The Sports Xchange) - The Ottawa Senators signed general manager Bryan Murray to a two-year contract extension, the team announced Monday. The contract covers Murray through the 2015-16 season and also named him president of hockey operations. The plan is to have Murray, 71, hold both jobs for the next two seasons, then have him remain with the team for two more years in an advisory capacity. Murray has been with the Senators since he was hired as coach in June 2004. He was promoted to general manager in June 2007. - - The NHL will play its first outdoor game west of the Mississippi River on Jan. 25 when the Los Angeles Kings host the Anaheim Ducks at Dodger Stadium. Hall of Famer Wayne Gretzky and longtime Dodgers broadcaster Vin Scully are expected to be in attendance and honored at the game. - - New York Islanders center John Tavares, Anaheim Ducks goaltender Jonas Hiller and New York Rangers goaltender Henrik Lundqvist were named the NHL's "Three Stars" for the week. - - Colorado Avalanche goaltender Jean-Sebastien Giguere is out with back spasms but the team does not know how much time he will miss. The Avalanche recalled goalie Sami Aittokallio from Lake Erie of the AHL in advance of Tuesday's game at the Chicago Blackhawks. - - The Tampa Bay Lightning reassigned goaltender Cedrick Desjardins to the Syracuse Crunch of the AHL.
