NHL-Highlights of Thursday's NHL games

Jan 16 (The Sports Xchange) - Highlights of Thursday's National Hockey League games. - - - Kings 4, Blues 1 Dwight King's goal broke a 1-1 tie early in the third period and Trevor Lewis added a shorthanded goal to help give the Los Angeles Kings a 4-1 victory over the St. Louis Blues. King scored four seconds after Los Angeles failed to net on their fifth power-play of the game. The puck appeared to be deflected into the net off the skate of the Blues' Jaden Schwartz. It was only the fourth regulation loss by the Blues in 24 home games this season. - - - Rangers 1, Red Wings 0 The smallest man on the ice made the biggest play for the New York Rangers as Mats Zuccarello, a 5-foot-7 center, worked a give-and-go with Derek Brassard late in the game to score his 12th goal of the season, providing the Rangers with a 1-0 win over the Detroit Red Wings. Zuccarello, who will skate for Norway at the Winter Olympics in February, sent a wrist shot past Red Wings goalie Jimmy Howard at 14:02 of the third period. Howard had been brilliant to that point, stopping 45 shots. The Rangers (25-21-3) are 7-1-1 in their last 10 games. Detroit (20-17-10) are 10-3-10 in one-goal games. - - - Sharks 3, Panthers 0 The San Jose Sharks continued their impressive cross-country road trip, using their team speed to defeat the Florida Panthers 3-0. Captain Joe Thornton, Matt Nieto and Joe Pavelski scored the goals. The Sharks moved to 66 points while Florida have 43. - - - Predators 4, Flyers 3 (shootout) Defenseman Roman Josi scored the decisive goal in a shootout to lift the Nashville Predators to a 4-3 victory over the Philadelphia Flyers. Flyers right winger Wayne Simmonds scored a power-play goal with 1:24 left in regulation to tie it, and the shootout went seven rounds. Nashville (21-21-7) defenseman Shea Weber had a goal and two assists, and Eric Nystrom and Dave Legwand also had goals to help Nashville win in Philadelphia for the first time since Nov. 29, 2006. Brayden Schenn and Andrej Meszaros scored Philadelphia's (24-19-5) other goals. - - - Canadiens 5, Senators 4 (overtime) The Montreal Canadiens blew a three-goal lead but came back to beat the Ottawa Senators 5-4 in overtime. A goal by Canadiens defenseman P.K. Subban 23 seconds into the extra session was the difference as Montreal won the wild Atlantic Division match. Subban's initial shot was stopped, but he muscled his way in for the rebound and then managed to get enough of the puck to push it over the line. - - - Islanders 2, Lightning 1 (shootout) New York center Frans Nielsen scored the only goal in a shootout and goaltender Kevin Poulin stopped all three shots he faced as the Islanders beat the Eastern Conference leading Lightning 2-1. Tampa Bay (28-15-15) entered the game tied for first with Boston in the conference. The Islanders (18-23-8) remained last in the Metropolitan Division. - - - Wild 4, Oilers 1 Minnesota Wild left winger Jason Zucker celebrated his 22nd birthday by setting a team record when he scored just eight seconds into the third period, the fastest home goal to start a period in team history, as Minnesota cruised to a 4-1 win over the Edmonton Oilers. Jason Pominville, Justin Fontaine and Nate Prosser added goals for the Wild (26-19-5), who are winners of six of their last eight games. For Edmonton (15-30-5), Jordan Eberle scored in the second period but the team fell to 2-6-2 in their last 10 games. - - - (Editing by Peter Rutherford)
