Oct 6 (The Sports Xchange) - Highlights of Sunday's National Hockey League games: - - Hurricanes 2, Flyers 1 Jay Harrison and Radek Dvorak scored goals, and the Carolina Hurricanes won for the first time this season, topping the Philadelphia Flyers. The Hurricanes (1-0-1) held on after squandering a two-goal lead two days earlier in an overtime loss to the Detroit Red Wings. The Flyers, who played less than 24 hours earlier at Montreal, fell to 0-3 for only the fourth time -- but for the second consecutive season. Goalie Anton Khudobin, making his Carolina debut, stopped 17 shots. Philadelphia goalie Steve Mason made 32 saves. The Flyers mustered only three shots on goal in the third period. - - Ducks 3, Jets 2 Teemu Selanne, a beloved member of the first incarnation of the Jets, made what likely will be his last appearance in the Manitoba capital, as his Ducks team emerged with a victory. Selanne was cheered before, and throughout, the game and acknowledged crowd, while team mate Corey Perry scored a tie-breaking goal late in the third to send Anaheim home winners. Andrew Ladd had two scores for the Jets in the defeat. It was a game the Jets never deserved to be in based on shot totals. Winnipeg never mustered more than six shots in a period and in the end, the Ducks outshot the Jets 34-17. - - Canucks 5, Flames 4 (overtime) Mike Santorelli scored his second goal of the game in the extra period to give Vancouver an overtime victory as they overcame a 3-1 deficit and spoiled the Flames home opener. Henrik and Daniel Sedin set up goals to get the Canucks back in the game as Vancouver scored three straight goals before Calgary's David Jones forced overtime with 19 seconds remaining in regulation. The Canucks completed a weekend Alberta sweep, having thumped the Edmonton Oilers 6-2 the night before. Eddie Lack, a free-agent acquisition, stepped in so No. 1 goalie Roberto Luongo could get a breather and stopped 32 shots for the win. Vancouver has a 2-1-0 record to start the season.
