NHL-Highlights of Saturday's National Hockey League playoff games

April 26 (The Sports Xchange) - Highlights of Saturday's National Hockey League playoff games. - - - Bruins 4, Red Wings 2 The Boston Bruins closed out their series with the Detroit Red Wings with a 4-2 win in Game 5 and now await the latest chapter of their bitter rivalry with the Montreal Canadiens. Defenseman Zdeno Chara snapped a 1-1 tie with a power play goal with 3.8 seconds left in the second period and Milan Lucic scored 4:27 into the third. In the first playoff series between the Original Six teams since 1957, the Red Wings won the first game but the Bruins, yielding just five more goals, won the next four to advance. The Bruins will meet the Canadiens, who swept the Tampa Bay Lightning in four games, for the 33rd time, easily the most played series between any two NHL teams. Tuukka Rask, named this week as a finalist for the Vezina Trophy, made 31 saves in the Boston goal. He was beaten on a rebound by Henrik Zetterberg with 3:52 left. Lucic set up Jarome Iginla for an empty netter, Iginla's second goal in as many games. Rookie defense Torey Krug had two assists for the Bruins. - - - Penguins 3, Blue Jackets 1 Jussi Jokinen scored the winning goal in the third period and goaltender Marc-Andre Fleury redeemed himself with a solid game as the Pittsburgh Penguins rallied for a 3-1 victory over the Columbus Blue Jackets in Game 5 of their first-round Stanley Cup playoff series. Jokinen knocked home a rebound past goaltender Sergei Bobrovsky with 13:44 remaining to break a 1-1 tie and give the Penguins a 3-2 lead in the best-of-seven series. Brandon Sutter took a shot from the right circle and an otherwise brilliant Bobrovsky fumbled the puck with his glove. Jokinen was alone in front of the crease to put the puck in the net for his third goal of the series. Chris Kunitz and Kris Letang had the Penguins' other goals. Letang's goal was an empty-netter with 1:01 to go that gave the Penguins a two-goal lead. Kunitz got credit for an assist. The Blue Jackets' goal was scored by Boone Jenner. - - - Kings 3, Sharks 0 The Los Angeles Kings are still kicking. Goals from three different skaters and 30 saves from goaltender Jonathan Quick enabled the Kings to beat the Sharks 3-0 in Game 5, reducing the series deficit to 3-2. The best-of-seven Western Conference quarter-final shifts back to L.A. for a Game 6 on Monday. The Sharks, who led 3-0 in the series, may have to play Game 6 without top defenseman Marc-Edouard Vlasic, who did not play after drawing a roughing penalty from Los Angeles center Jarret Stoll at 14:09 of the first period. Only three teams have rallied from a 3-0 deficit to advance in the Stanley Cup playoffs. After the Kings jumped out to a 2-0 lead after the first period, Jeff Carter's behind-the-back centering feed from behind the goal line caromed off the right skate of Sharks defenseman Brad Stuart for a power-play goal and 3-0 lead 22 seconds into the second period. - - - Avalanche 4, Wild 3 (overtime) Rookie center Nathan MacKinnon scored 3:27 into overtime and the Colorado Avalanche again rallied late to beat the Minnesota Wild 4-3 and take a 3-2 lead in the best-of-seven NHL playoff series. MacKinnon got the puck from Paul Stastny, went to the slot and beat Wild goaltender Darcy Kuemper with a snap shot. It was MacKinnon's second goal of the playoffs. He finished with two assists and has 10 points in his first NHL playoff series. P.A. Parenteau scored with 1:14 left to send Game 5 into overtime at 3-3 after Wild left winger Zach Parise and center Kyle Brodziak scored 1:51 apart early in the third period to give Minnesota a 3-2 lead. It appeared to be enough, but the Avs pulled goaltender Semyon Varlamov with 2:22 left and Parenteau scored on an assist from Stastny. Mark Moulson also scored in regulation for the Wild, while Cody McLeod and Nick Holden found the net for the Avalanche. (Editing by Peter Rutherford; )
