(Adds later games) March 10 (The Sports Xchange) - Highlights of Monday's National Hockey League games - - Blue Jackets, Stars (postponed) The game between the Columbus Blue Jackets and Dallas Stars was postponed in the first period when Stars center Rich Peverley collapsed on the bench. Peverley was immediately treated by medical personnel and regained consciousness before being taken to hospital, the team said. Peverley, 31, had a procedure prior to the season to correct an irregular heartbeat, which forced him to miss training camp and Dallas' season opener against the Florida Panthers. He just finished a shift at 5:50 of the first period moments before he collapsed. - - Penguins 3, Capitals 2 Sidney Crosby scored once and assisted on two other goals by left winger Chris Kunitz to lead the Penguins to a win over the Capitals. The win moved the Penguins (43-17-4) one point ahead of the Boston Bruins atop the Eastern Conference with 90 points. Washington (30-26-10) lost for the fourth time in five games and are in danger of missing the playoffs for the first time in seven years. Alex Ovechkin, the NHL's leading goal scorer with 44, was held without a point. - - Avalanche 3, Jets 2 (OT) Matt Duchene scored at 2:33 of overtime as the Colorado Avalanche beat the Winnipeg Jets. Avalanche goaltender Semyon Varlamov made 33 saves. Center John Mitchell and defenseman Andre Benoit also had goals for Colorado. Jets defenseman Dustin Byfuglien scored two goals and center Bryan Little had two assists. Colorado played without center Paul Stastny, who suffered a back injury on Saturday and then lost right winger P.A. Parenteau to a right knee injury in the first period. - - Kings 3, Flames 2 Goaltender Martin Jones made 24 saves as Los Angeles stayed red-hot as the Kings won their eighth successive game. The undrafted 24-year-old netminder has a 10-4-0 record and three shutouts in 14 NHL starts. The Kings are one win short of the franchise record streak set just before the 2010 Olympics. - - Coyotes 4, Lightning 3 (SO) Right wing Radim Vrbata scored the only goal in a shootout as the Phoenix Coyotes held on to beat the flailing Tampa Bay Lightning. Vrbata back-handed the winner past goaltender Ben Bishop in the third round of the shootout while former Lightning goaltender Mike Smith snuffed out all three attempts. Lightning rookie left wing Ondrej Palat had tied the game 3-3 with his second goal, a poke past Smith with just 37 seconds left and the Tampa Bay goal empty. Tampa Bay (34-24-7) lost their fifth consecutive game but remain in possession of the top wild card spot in the Eastern Conference. Phoenix (30-24-11) have won three of their last four and are on the edge of a wild card spot in the Western Conference. - - Predators 4, Senators 3 (OT) Nashville defenseman Seth Jones scored with 1:11 left in overtime to snap the Predators' four-game losing streak with a victory over the Ottawa Senators. The win kept alive the Predators' (27-28-10) slim playoff hopes. - - Maple Leafs 3, Ducks 1 Toronto Maple Leafs right wing Phil Kessel had a goal and two assists as the Maple Leafs made coach Randy Carlyle's return to Honda Center a triumphant one with a victory over the Anaheim Ducks. Goaltender Jonathan Bernier stopped 43 shots for Toronto. Carlyle coached Anaheim to the franchise's lone Stanley Cup championship in 2007. The Ducks are now one point behind St. Louis for the top mark in the NHL after their third successive loss. - - Islanders 7, Canucks 4 The New York Islanders scored seven third-period goals to beat the Vancouver Canucks. Rookie Anders Lee, a center called up from the American Hockey League, kept up his torrid pace since joining the Islanders on Feb. 27, scoring his fifth goal in seven games.
