NH auto dealers push for dealer bill of rights, say contracts with manufacturers unfair
CONCORD, N.H. (AP) -- New Hampshire auto dealers are turning to the state for help saying their contracts with auto manufacturers place an unsustainable burden on their businesses and they have no leverage to change the dynamic.
A handful of auto dealers urged House lawmakers Tuesday to approve a Senate-passed bill they say brings greater fairness to their relationship with manufacturers. The so-called auto dealer bill of rights laws exist in all other states. The New Hampshire proposal would allow greater intervals between facility upgrades and the purchase of tools and construction supplies locally.
Senate President Peter Bragdon, a Milford Republican, was one of two no-votes in the Senate. He said the state should not be involved in breaking existing contracts and the New Hampshire proposal goes further than laws in other states.
