NFL Preseason: Studs & Duds from Week 2

The second week of the NFL Preseason schedule is in the books and the real season is so close we can almost taste it.

Here’s who stood out for good or ill this past weekend.

NFL: Preseason Week 2 Studs

Dak Prescott: It’s only been two games in August but so far Dak Prescott has to be considered the preseason MVP and it looks like he’s been doing this for years. Prescott scorched the Dolphins for four touchdowns (two on the ground) and his passer rating was a perfect 158.3.

Tyrod Taylor: Buffalo’s new franchise quarterback celebrated his $90 million deal by blowing the Giants out of the water on a couple deep passes. Cardale Jones and E.J. Manuel did not look nearly as good, further cementing his position.

Jeremy Langford: On Thursday Langford ran wild on the New England Patriots, with some help from a Chicago Bears offensive line that needed to make a statement. Langford was given huge running lanes several times and he produced 55 yards and a touchdown on eight carries.

Vernon Hargreaves: Not all of their 2016 draft picks are working out, but it looks like the Buccaneers at least got this one right. Once the starters were off the field Hargreaves picked off Chad Henne twice.

Jadeveon Clowney: Maybe we can’t write Clowney off as a bust just yet. Clowney was an absolute wrecking ball against the Saints’ front five this week, getting consistent pressure and picking up a sack. If he every plays four games in a row who knows what he might do?

NFL: Preseason Week 2 Duds

Roberto Aguayo: For the second straight week Tampa’s decision to trade up and take a kicker in the second round is looking pretty bad. Last week Aguayo missed an extra point. This time he missed wide right on two field goals, one of which was a chip-shot.

The New York Giants: Head coach Ben McAdoo says that there were “no positives” for the Giants in their four-turnover blowout loss to Buffalo. New York’s quarterbacks had a cumulative 9.8 passer rating. If you take away Bobby Rainey’s 67-yard run the team would have finished the game with 99 total.

Daryl Worley: A lot of people are talking up Tajae Sharpe for a big performance against the Panthers. Sharpe was good, but the man covering him was a total disappointment. Five of Sharpe’s six catches came with the West Virginia rookie in coverage.

Antwon Blake: A routine hitch route catch by Ted Ginn Jr. led to a 61 yard touchdown thanks to a weak tackle attempt from Antwon Blake. Tennessee’s defensive backs were off their tackling game in general, but that one was the most costly.

Landry Jones: Let’s just say that Ben Roethlisberger doesn’t have to worry about his starting job anytime soon. Jim Schwartz deserves some credit for his gameplan but there’s no excuse for throwing four interceptions.
