Posting back-to-back wins against a stout defense versus Denver and high powered offense in Atlanta, the San Diego Chargers continue to climb the power rankings this week. The AFC West division dominates the rankings and if the Bolts defeat the Broncos again this week, expect them to make another sizable jump.

Chargers News: AFC West Review – Week Seven

Losing close games to start the year, the Chargers appear to be turning a corner in closing out games and finding ways to win. Hopefully the trend continues as San Diego moves up the power rankings and into contention among the AFC West.

If only the Chargers owned a cool theme song that we could sing here. You know, something vintage to blast since they beat a Falcons team that was donning throwback unis. Maybe a song with a disco beat to it. Too bad San Diego doesn’t have something like that. Oh well. Thought the Chargers won this deal when Philip Rivers delivered a perfect ball to Antonio Gates at the goal line. Not so. That’s OK … when the defense steps up the way it has the last two weeks. Holy cow,Joey Bosa has gone all J.J. Watt on the NFL.

ESPN – 19, Last Week – 14

The Chargers’ defense still has some problems, but pass rush is not one of them. Rookie defensive end Joey Bosa has recorded 4.0 total sacks in two of his three games and San Diego ranks in the top 10 in sacks and pressure percentage. They’ll be chasing after the Broncos in Week 8.

CBS – 11, Last Week 17

This is a team that seems to be growing up. Now they face a stiff road test at Denver after impressive victories the past couple of weeks.

To put the Chargers’ weekly fireworks show into context of the NFL season, imagine that you’re flipping through the dregs of Halloween movies all over TV right now (The Amityville Horror remake; The Omen 3; that two-hour virtual Xanax where Jon Bon Jovi plays a vampire hunter) … and then you find The Shining. Despite only having three wins to show for it, San Diego is must-see television each week, amid a sea of unwatchable games.
