Here is a roundup of the top NFL news headlines from the past week.

Welcome to the NFL, rookie

Dallas Cowboys running back Ezekiel Elliot got an unpleasant birthday present when he became the center of a domestic violence controversy yesterday. Elliot’s ex-girlfriend Tiffany Thompson alleged that she’d been beaten by sharing photos of bruises on her arms and neck on her Instagram account.

Elliot’s representatives have denied any wrongdoing and claim that Ms. Thompson sustained the injuries in a bar fight with another woman. He has not been charged with a crime at this time.

RIP Dennis Green

This week’s saddest news came Friday when we learned that former Minnesota Vikings and Arizona Cardinals head coach Dennis Green passed away due to cardiac arrest. He was only 67 years old. Green will be remembered most for his famous tirade following a loss on Monday Night Football to the Chicago Bears. Play it one more time, Sam.

Le’Veon Bell suspension

Once again, Pittsburgh Steelers running back Le’Veon Bell is going to begin the year on the sidelines. He has been suspended the first four games of the 2016 season for missing a drug test. Bell is currently recovering from a knee injury suffered halfway through 2015, but he was scheduled to play Week 1, so this is an unexpected blow for Pittsburgh. Last year veteran DeAngelo Williams played extremely well in his place, though. Now would be a good time to move Todd Gurley to the top of your running back board.

Turn down for Watt

Houston Texans defensive end J.J. Watt may be the best football player on the planet, but he’s only human. On Wednesday we got a reminder of that when we learned Watt underwent surgery to repair a herniated disc in his back. The Texans say they expect him to be ready for the season opener against the Chicago Bears. However, eight weeks is a more typical recovery time so he may wind up missing a couple of games.

Drew Brees, Saints not talking

Next year’s biggest free agent in the NFL will be quarterback Drew Brees. It’s rare for a talent like Brees to actually hit the market but extension talks with the New Orleans Saints are not going well. In fact, they don’t even exist. Brees says that he has not had any contract discussions with the team for three months.

Odell Beckham, Josh Norman talking plenty

I’m beginning to think that Washington cornerback Josh Norman and New York Giants wide receiver Odell Beckham Jr. are actually in love. This week the two rivals continued their public feud by trading jabs in the media. First, Beckham said that he made Norman relevant then Norman fired back by saying Beckham was only relevant because of one catch. Now Norman is claiming that he totally doesn’t even care what Beckham says anymore. Get a grip, guys.

The latest NFL transactions

Here are the most recent moves around the NFL, according to ESPN.

Chicago Bears: signed OG Amini Silatolu
Cincinnati Bengals: waived CB Corey Tindal
Dallas Cowboys: signed LB Justin Durant
Miami Dolphins: signed RB Arian Foster
Oakland Raiders: signed CB David Amerson
Green Bay Packers: signed CB Warren Gatewood
Carolina Panthers: CB Charles Tillman retired

That’s all the news for now. Have a great weekend.
