When is the next total solar eclipse in the US? In Erie? Here's what to know

Many who were dazzled by Monday’s total solar eclipse in Erie probably can’t wait for the next one to occur.

But waiting they must do ― for quite some time.

When is the next total solar eclipse visible from the U.S.?

The next total solar eclipse that will be visible from the contiguous United States will be on Aug. 22, 2044.

The path of totality will only touch Montana and North Dakota. A partial solar eclipse will occur in all or parts of 21 states, not including Pennsylvania, according to National Eclipse.com, a U.S.-based independent resource for eclipse research.

More states will benefit on Aug. 12, 2045, when another total solar eclipse will have a path of totality that will cross over California, Nevada, Utah, Colorado, New Mexico, Oklahoma, Kansas, Texas, Arkansas, Missouri, Mississippi, Louisiana, Alabama, Florida and Georgia.

A partial solar eclipse will also be viewable in 35 other states, to include Pennsylvania, according to National Eclipse.com.

When is the next total solar eclipse visible from Erie?

Erie will have to wait much longer to be in the path of totality again ― not until Oct. 26, 2144, or 120 years away.

If you're not willing to wait that long, globe-trotting is another option.

On Aug. 12, 2026, a total solar eclipse will occur in Russia, Greenland, and Europe. In Europe, the path of totality will cross over western Iceland, and northern Spain and Portugal, according to National Eclipse.com.
