The Next Step collecting gently worn shoes in Joplin and Carl Junction

JOPLIN, Mo. — If you have a gently worn pair of shoes, or even a pair you bought but never wore, an area non-profit would like to have them.

The Next Step – Joplin is an organization dedicated to helping those in the homeless community “take the next step” to a better life.

It’s conveniently located next to Souls Harbor in Joplin. The group is hosting a shoe drive over the next few days and they need your help, gathering as many pairs as possible.

Regardless of their condition, The Next Step President Jason Silvers says they will be put to good use.

They distribute them to third world countries, basically underprivileged anywhere that they’re found, and the shoes that can’t be donated or wore because they’re in too bad a shape will be turned into play ground mulch,” said Silvers.

You can drop off your shoe donation through Saturday evening at two different locations in the Joplin area: at 215 Rocky Ln. in Carl Junction, or 1924 Annie Baxter in Joplin.
