Who should be the next Caller-Times Student of the Week?

It's time to cast your vote for the Caller-Times Student of the Week.

Voting is open until noon on Thursday, March 7.

Participating Coastal Bend high school principals, teachers and guidance counselors nominated high school students they say have shown outstanding academic and school achievement and community service.

We will announce a winner and runner-up Friday.

The nominees for March 4 are:

  • Albert Wang, Calallen High School: Wang is a senior and will be recognized this year as a three-year graduate. One of Albert's most noted accomplishments includes an internship for the Math and Statistics Lab at Texas A&M University-Kingsville. He completed summer research on Computation of Nash Equilibria and presented at the Maplesoft Conference 2023. In addition, he participated in the NASA Texas High School Aerospace Scholars Program and was invited to be a part of the virtual summer experience with NASA's Johnson Space Center. He has received numerous accolades including National Merit Finalist and AP Scholar with Distinction. He is president of the Calallen High School Math Club and has participated in several UIL competitions. Albert's character is one of an intelligent, responsible, and mature young adult, according to his nomination from Calallen ISD. After graduation, he plans on attending a university to study computer science.

  • Hannah Harris, Flour Bluff High School: Hannah is junior at Flour Bluff High School. "Hannah has a positive energy that she brings into every class," teacher Sarah Pappas said in her nomination. "She is excited to be at school, gets her work done and goes out of her way to help any student she comes across." Harris is described by her mother Lonnie Harris as a "kind and loving soul." Hannah hopes to one day become a veterinarian. She is an animal lover who enjoys spending time with her two cats, Peter Pan and Luna.
