STORRS, Connecticut – In his final game at Gampel Pavilion, El Paso’s Tristen Newton recorded 17 points and 10 assists in No. 3 UConn’s 91-61 win over Seton Hall on Sunday.

Newton, a graduate student, was one of four UConn players that were honored on Senior Day prior to the game.

Once the game started, The Burges High School graduate put on another display of why he is one of the best guards in college basketball in the entire country. Newton scored 17 points on 4-of-9 shooting from the floor, with all four made shots being three-pointers. Newton’s other five points came at the free throw line as he went 5-of-6 from the charity stripe.

Newton completed the double-double by dishing out ten assists. This is the fourth game this season Newton has recorded at least ten assists.

Newton’s double-double was his third-straight and ninth this season. Newton became the first Husky with three-straight double-doubles since Adama Sanogo in the 2023 NCAA Tournament.

Newton wasn’t the only UConn player to register a double-double in Sunday’s contest. His teammate Donovan Clingan collected 19 points and 11 rebounds. Freshman Stephon Castle led the Huskies to a win on Senior Day with a career-high 21 points.

With the win, UConn clinched its first outright Big East regular season title since 1999. It marks the 18th Big East championship in UConn history, the 11th regular season title and first Big East championship of any kind since the 2011 Tournament.

Newton and No. 3 UConn are back in action on Wednesday, hitting the road for the first of two away from home to end the regular season. First up is a trip to No. 5 Marquette and the Fiserv Forum.
