Newton Open House scheduled for US 50 project

NEWTON, Kan. (KSNW) — The Kansas Department of Transportation has scheduled an open house to discuss improvements planned for the U.S. Highway 50 and Meridian intersection project.

KDOT says the bridge that travels over Meridian Ave and the BNSF railroad track needs to be replaced because it is nearing the end of its functional design life. Improvements are also planned for the intersection.

Open house attendees can learn about the background of the project, see preliminary designs, and view a construction timeline. Representatives from KDOT and the design team will be there to answer questions and get public feedback.

Those who are unable to attend will still be able to see details on the project and submit their questions and comments on the project’s webpage following the open house. The open house is come and go, with no formal presentation given.

It will take place on Thursday, May 2, from 4:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. at the Sand Creek Events Center, located at 1601 S Anderson Avenue in Newton.
