Builders' Show: MR Direct's bronze vessel sink for the ages

A vessel sink rests proudly atop a bathroom counter or cabinet, practically begging for your attention. When it's made from bronze and looks, well, a little misshapen and very artistic in a rustic sort of way, then it's no longer just a sink. The 963 Chalice Bronze Vessel Sink, $695 from MR Direct, is on display at the International Builders' Show and turning heads.

Fashioned to look as if it's custom crafted, MR Direct's website says the sink is made from pure bronze and finished with an antique patina that will help hide minor scratches, and its one-piece construction ensures durability. Bronze is made up of different metals but mostly copper, and standing water is a no-no. It will leave water spots and if left long enough, can harm the sink's finish.

You'll also find vessel sinks made of glass, stainless steel, and other materials. If you're considering one, make sure that the faucet extends well over the sink to avoid drips onto the counter. See our Ratings of eight bathroom sink materials—bronze is not among them—and six kitchen sink materials to see how they stand up to stains, heat, abrasions and sharp impacts.
