Blink and You'll Miss Aroldis Chapman's Blazing 104-MPH Fastball
Flame-throwing Cincinnati Reds closer Aroldis Chapman is widely regarded as the hardest throwing pitcher in baseball. Last night vs. the Arizona Diamondbacks, Chapman turned it up another notch, throwing scorching fastballs past D-Backs slugger Paul Goldschmidt and his teammates.
During the inning, Chapman threw 15 pitches over 100 mph—five clocked at 103 and one at 104—and struck out the side. In the video below, Chapman's low-90s change-up is also on display, driving home the point of just how much heat he brings.
After the game, Goldschmidt, a two-time All-Star and a very good hitter, told MLB.com that "as far as velocity, it's probably the hardest [I've faced] by 4 miles an hour or so." However, it wasn't quite as fast as Chapman has ever thrown; he was clocked at an insane 105 mph vs. the Padres in 2010.
