News Summary: Samsung pushes its own new mobile OS

GOOGLE TIE-UP: Samsung supplies about one-third of smartphones sold, nearly all running on Google's Android. Both companies have benefited. But Samsung has had little success in locking Galaxy device users into music, messaging and other Samsung services.

PROFIT IN SOFTWARE: The Android and the iPhone ecosystems generate profit for Google and Apple every time smartphone users purchase a game or application. So now Samsung wants to expand its control beyond hardware to software, by building its own mobile operating system, called Tizen.

UP NEXT: The South Korean electronics giant has not announced a Tizen phone, but it still urged developers to create apps for a mobile operating system. Samsung sees the software in cars, fridges and televisions too.
