News Summary: HP board to remain intact for now

News Summary: HP directors targeted in shareholder rebellion survive squelch ouster attempt

REBELLION REBUFFED: Hewlett-Packard Co. managed to keep its board intact, despite an effort to oust its two longest-serving directors, John Hammergren and G. Kennedy Thompson, as punishment for recent missteps that have depressed the company's stock price.

THIN MARGIN: Hammergren, a HP board member since 2005, was backed by 54 percent of the ballots cast, according to preliminary results announced Wednesday at the personal computer maker's annual meeting. Thompson, a director since 2006, got 55 percent of the vote. Last year, each director received support from 81 percent of the votes.

MESSAGE HEARD: An HP director said to expect "some evolution of the board in the coming years, months maybe."
