THE MAKEOVER: Even though the new Chevrolet Malibu has been on sale for just a year, General Motors is giving it a makeover. The new version will come out in the fall as a 2014 model.
THE REASON: Sales are down 12 percent so far this year, but the Malibu's main competitors, the Ford Fusion and Honda Accord, are up more than 25 percent.
WHAT WAS DONE: The Malibu got a new engine that helped add one mile per gallon to the gas mileage. It also got more back-seat legroom, a simpler interior, and a new hood and front grille.
