Ohio to host virtual town hall on Medicare

COLUMBUS —  Ohio Department of Insurance director Judith L. French and Medicare experts from the department’s Ohio Senior Health Insurance Information Program are hosting a free, virtual town hall at 11:30 a.m. Tuesday to help Ohioans on Medicare understand Medicare changes for 2023, how to compare options and select coverage, ways to save money, and protect against fraud. Medicare open enrollment runs Oct. 15-Dec. 7.

OSHIIP is the state’s official Medicare educational, plan comparison, and enrollment assistance program. Visit the department’s website,, to register for the town hall.

Lunch for LuLu set for Friday

FREMONT — Wendt Key Team Realty will once again host its annual Lunch For LuLu 11 a.m.-2 p.m. Friday at its parking lot at 1403 W. State St.

Proceeds from the event will benefit the Susan G. Komen Race for the Cure and Sandusky County Cancer Care in honor of the late Linda "LuLu" Key, one of the founders of Wendt Key Team Realty. Key died in 2011 after a long battle with cancer.

For the cost of any donation, drive through the Wendt Key parking lot Friday and get a jumbo hot dog, plenty of condiments, a bag of chips and a bottle of water. Also, for a minimum donation of $100, Wendt Key will deliver lunches to businesses or individuals. Those lunches must be pre-ordered by noon today. Ottawa County business council to host career showcase

PORT CLINTON — The Ottawa County Business Advisory Council is hosting its eighth annual Ottawa County Career Showcase event 9 a.m.-2 p.m. Oct. 7 at the Gary Anderson Competition Center at Camp Perry. Ottawa County ninth grade students will have an opportunity to engage with hands-on activities with each of the businesses, hear about the necessary skill sets needed for specific jobs and about future job opportunities.

Nearly 30 businesses will participate, including Magruder Hospital, LogistiQ, Catawba Island Club, Materion and USG. School representatives, elected officials ad business leaders will be in attendance throughout the day.

Pumpkin Pass Out to be held Saturday

FREMONT — Advance Auto Parts will host Pumpkin Pass Out 10 a.m.-3 p.m. Saturday at 619 E. State St. Meet the Fremont Fire and Police department staff members. There will be apple cider, face painting and drawings.
