Newport News police arrest a second person in connection to Valentine’s Day shooting

Newport News police have arrested another person in connection with a shooting that killed a man in February.

On March 4, police arrested Damian Guzman, 20, in connection to the shooting that killed 52-year-old Thomas Crawley. Guzman is charged with second-degree murder and malicious wounding, among other crimes. Guzman is the second person charged in connection with Crawley’s death.

On Feb. 15, police arrested Marlyn Nieves-Collazo, 37, and charged her with aggravated malicious wounding, use of a firearm in the commission of a felony, discharging a firearm in a public place, reckless handling of a firearm and brandishing. When Crawley died, she was also charged with second-degree murder.

According to police, Crawley was found shot and critically wounded in an incident on Feb. 14 in the 1100 block of 28th Street. He later died from his injuries on Feb. 26.
