Newmarket High School names top 10 students in the Class of 2024

NEWMARKET — Newmarket High School has announced the top 10 students in its Class of 2024.

Matilde Sala (valedictorian) will attend the University of New Hampshire in the fall to major in biochemistry.

Sports, clubs and awards: Teen Tutors (11th and 12th); Teen Tutors President (12th); National Honors Society (12th); Seacoast Science Center Marine Fellowship (11th ); Independent Latin Study (9th through 12th); Manchester Community College Western Civilization 1500-present (11th); UNH CATS First-Year Writing (10th); Harvard Book Award (11th); Academic Excellence in Biology (10th); Academic Excellence in Pre-Calculus (11th); Academic Excellence in Algebra II (10th); Academic Excellence for English 3 (11th); Academic Excellence for Economics (11th); Academic Excellence for Spanish Grade II (11th); Academic Excellence in Western Civilization & Geography (10th); Academic Excellence in Business & Technology (10th); and AP Scholar Award (11th)

Community service and employment: Volunteer and community service experiences consisted of weekly tutoring and the National Honors Society volunteer opportunities, such as the Breast Cancer Walk, leaf raking, Trick or Canning, and helping out at the cross country meet (11th and 12th), 12). Also, worked as a summer camp counselor aide for the Newmarket Recreation Department (10th).

Favorite high school memory: My Rhizopus (black bread mold) Independent Study in 10th grade biology.

Sports, clubs and awards: Varsity track and field (9th through 12th); boys varsity soccer (10th through 12th); Project SEARCH (11th and 12th); Newmarket Teen Tutors (11thand 12th); National Honor Society (12th); Student Athletic Leadership Team (12th); Academic Excellence in Chemistry Award (11th); and Rensselaer Medal Recipient (11th).

Community service and employment: Volunteer soccer coach for the Newmarket Recreation Center (since 2021); volunteer for the local Indian Community (since 2017); National Honor Society (30 volunteer hours per year); and Teen Tutors (15 hours per year).

Favorite high school memory: Going on the Boda Borg field trip and playing my last home soccer game in the playoffs.

Favorite high school memory: My favorite high school memory was getting two golden batons by winning both the 4x400 and 4x800 relays at the Division III State Championship track meet in 2022. We also set a Division III state record in the 4x800 and continued onto the Meet of Champions, the New England Championships, and New Balance Nationals.

Favorite high school memory: My favorite memory from high school was seeing the museum exhibit me and my group had created in the actual museum, as it was something we had all worked really hard on, so seeing it out for an official display was really cool to see.

Favorite high school memory: My top two favorite memories from high school are 1.) having a three-person anatomy class during sophomore year after the seniors left, and 2) taking part in a pipetting competition during first year SST and having to stand on top of the lab benches.
