Newlywed husband killed in I-40 crash

FAYETTE COUNTY, Tenn. — A fatal crash claimed the life of a newlywed husband just one day after celebrating his wedding.

The Fayette County fire chief confirmed the tragic incident happened Monday afternoon on I-40 at mile marker 28.

According to the Tennessee highway patrol, 27-year-old Daniel Palacios III, and 23-year-old Christy Carrillo were heading east on I-40 in a Toyota 4Runner when their car veered off the road, hit a dirt embankment, and flipped multiple times.

Their car then crossed into oncoming traffic and hit a tractor-trailer. Authorities confirmed that Palacios did not survive the crash.

Denis Vann, a frequent traveler on I-40, shared a video with us showing the devastating impact of the crash.

He describes it as the most severe vehicle damage he’s witnessed in over 40 years.

“When I got closer to the wreck, looks like back tire might’ve blown out and hit the median and flipped about twenty times,” said Vann.

The Tennessee highway patrol also mentioned that Carrillo was wearing a seatbelt, and Palacios was not.

An online obituary on Thursday stated that the couple had been married the previous day. However, the obituary was removed Thursday afternoon.
