Newly Discovered Jellyfish Bears A Strange Resemblance To A UFO

Sci-Fi films have repeatedly told us that alien life might not come from the skies, but from the darkened depths of the oceans.

It now seems like they might have a point - after a bizarre new species of jellyfish bearing a strange resemblance to a UFO was discovered under the Pacific Ocean.

The unusual beast was captured for the first time by a robotic camera that was sent 12,000 feet under the Pacific Ocean between Japan and the Philippines.

The discovery was made by scientists from the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration of the United States, who were exploring the Mariana Trench on April 24 - by using the Deep Discoverer, a remotely operated vehicle (ROV).

But the creature’s bulbous shape looks remarkably similar to a UFO, while scientists believe that its red and yellow stripes could in fact be reproductive organs.

Researchers believe that it is an ambush predator - which waits silently for something to bump into its tentacles before attacking.

It has now been nicknamed ‘Microsoft Paint’, owing to its strange resemblance to a jellyfish drawn in the popular creative program.
