Yahoo Lifestyle would like to introduce you to The New-New, a column by Beauty Director Dana Oliver on the latest products, tools, and treatments on which she’d happily spend her hard-earned money.

My earliest memory of Elizabeth Taylor White Diamonds perfume is seeing the shiny gold bottle atop my Grandma Annie Ruth’s vanity. Nestled on the vanity among her string of pearls, gold hoop earrings, and Sunday church-service programs tucked inside her Holy Bible, the fragrance was her absolute favorite to wear.

My grandmother would spritz it on before heading to the bank, post office, dollar store, and, of course, church. She wore it every day just like Taylor did. If I close my eyes tight enough, I can still smell the aroma of gardenia, bergamot, and jasmine that surrounded her at all times. The scent was most certainly too strong for my young nose to appreciate, but what I’ll never forget is the special way it made her feel.

I attended a launch event in New York City hosted by actress Camilla Belle to celebrate the latest fragrance from the House of Taylor. Love & White Diamonds is poured into a blush-color bottle and adorned with a pavé jewel-like top. Inspired by Taylor and Richard Burton’s lavish love affair, master perfumer Carlo Benaim stayed true to the original romantic blend of jasmine and gardenia signature of White Diamonds. However, he added a fresh twist with Turkish rose and mandarin oil, which definitely gives it a more youthful touch.

I chose to exclusively wear Love & White Diamonds during a recent weekend visit from my mother and aunt. I was immediately drawn in by the powdery-like burst that comes courtesy of the sheer-musk drydown. The bright combo of citrus and florals linger nicely on my skin during the first couple of hours. And as the perfume continues to “mix” with my body’s pH, warm cedar and sandalwood notes take over without giving me a headache and still leaving quite the impression.

Love & White Diamonds is nothing like my granny’s go-to, yet I’m convinced she’d love it just as much.

Elizabeth Taylor Love & White Diamonds, $69, is now available at Macy’s stores and macys.com.
