‘Never expected to see anything like that on a Monday afternoon’: Fond du Lac police investigate bizarre assault case

FOND DU LAC, Wis. (WFRV) – Fond du Lac police are investigating a physical assault case that took them to a variety of locations across the city.

Police were called to the 600 block of East Merrill Avenue for a report of a man destroying property and physically assaulting his girlfriend. The 35-year-old male suspect then was driven by his girlfriend to St. Agnes Hospital, where he began acting erratically.

According to eyewitnesses at the hospital, the suspect pushed his girlfriend to the passenger seat of the car, got in the driver’s seat, and sped out of the parking lot.

After fleeing the hospital, police say he went to a nearby Dairy Queen, where he reportedly entered the food service area without permission and gave minor injuries to 2 employees.

Police say the suspect then fled and was apprehended at South Hills Golf and Country Club, but not before crashing into a golf cart bridge.

Groundskeeper at the course Dana Majewski says, “[I] never expected to see anything like that on a Monday afternoon. I literally saw him come down the hill and drive right by me, maybe 15 feet away or so. Then, he proceeded to drive the cart path and got stuck right in the bridge.”

The superintendent of the grounds, Jim VanHerwynen, also recalled hearing about what happened from a staff member who said, “There was a man naked on the golf course running around. I’ve been here for 29 years, and this is probably the craziest story I’ve ever come across.”

A tow truck was able to remove the vehicle from the bridge without harming the course.

“It was shocking at first. You never expect anything like that to happen out here. Thankfully, nobody was hurt, and hopefully, he can get the help he needs,” Majewski says.
