Nevada in need of poll workers, state leaders urging veterans to volunteer

LAS VEGAS (KLAS) — The 2024 June Primary is Tuesday, June 11 and Nevada needs people to volunteer to be poll workers. State leaders say poll workers are necessary for the elections because they play an essential role in elections and the democratic process by increasing confidence in the elections. The state is asking those who have served before to serve once again.

“In order for our elections to work, we need to have poll workers,” said Secretary of State Cisco Aguilar. “Poll workers are the unsung heroes of our democracy because they ensure Nevadans have the opportunity to exercise our fundamental right to vote.”

America’s elections are run by “We the People,” but unfortunately, there aren’t enough people volunteering in Nevada. In response, the national campaign “Vet the Vote” is recruiting veterans and military family members to become the next generation of poll workers. Recently, Vet the Vote had a hard time recruiting volunteers. Now, the organization is calling on those with a history and heart for service to step up and serve our country as poll workers to ensure a safe and secure election cycle.

“Veterans know what it means to ensure people’s freedoms are protected,” said Secretary Aguilar. “We are excited about their engagement. They understand the value of our country. They know what we can be as a country and to ensure everyone has a voice and a say in our future.”

Veterans can register to be poll workers by visiting Vet The Vote. You don’t have to be a veteran to work the polls. Civilians are encouraged to volunteer as well. For more information, visit this link.

Early voting for state and local races begins on Saturday, March 25, and will run through Friday, June 7.
