Netflix superhero drama Raising Dion will return for a second season.

Its first nine episodes dropped on the streaming platform back in October, and they clearly reeled in enough viewers to impress bosses over at Netflix.

Co-creator and showrunner Carol Barbee is once again heading up the project, which will enter production sometime this year for eight more episodes.

Raising Dion follows widow Nicole (played by Alisha Wainwright) and her superpowered son Dion (Ja'Siah Young), as she tries to protect him from sinister forces looking to exploit his incredible abilities.

Wainwright previously discussed how she'd like to see a present-day scene featuring Nicole, Dion and her dead husband Mark (Black Panther's Michael B Jordan) in a possible sophomore season – something teased briefly in the first batch of episodes.

"One of my favourite aspects of that is watching Dion watch his parents," she explained. "I would love to be able to have them have that moment again, just for Dion's sake, if and when a season 2 comes along."

Make it so, Barbee.

If you're a fan of Raising Dion and looking for something to watch until season two lands, make sure you check out Jeff Nichols' 2016 sci-fi movie Midnight Special, which has a very similar premise. You won't be disappointed...

Raising Dion season one is available to stream on Netflix.
