Netflix's Female-Led Series Godless Still Has 73% Of Dialogue Delivered By Men
Netflix's critically-acclaimed new western Godless might be generating all sorts of buzz among fans, but one viewer has noticed something a little off about its first episode.
Godless is arguably a female-led series, no thanks to Downton Abbey's badass Michelle Dockery, and the fact that the town where it's set is overwhelmingly populated by women.
That's why it's kind of baffling – and very disappointing – to hear that 73% of the dialogue spoken in its premiere was delivered by men.
Erm, how has that happened?
One attentive Twitter user did the math and calculated that 73% of lines in episode one were spoken by men, while the remaining 27% were spoken by women.

Digital Spy has reached out to Netflix for comment.
Of course, dialogue doesn't necessarily equal action, and there's no denying that the women we follow in Godless are just as powerful as the men, if not more so.

And while we can't help but enjoy a traditional western every now and again (read: once in a blue moon), it's genuinely refreshing to see a modern take on the genre with its usually sidelined female counterparts shifted front and centre.
Because of all that, it's no surprise that the series, and its stellar cast, are already generating plenty of Emmy and Golden Globe-related buzz.
Perhaps it's a case of a little less conversation and a little more action this time.
