Nestlé recalls Starbucks-branded mugs due to burn, laceration hazards

(WHTM) – Starbucks-branded mugs sold in a gift set are being recalled after a dozen incidents of the mugs overheating and breaking.

The United States Consumer Product Safety Commission says metallic mugs, sold in Nestlé USA’s 2023 Holiday Starbucks-branded Gift Sets, can overheat or break if microwaved or filled with extremely hot liquid.

About 440,500 of these gift sets were sold from November 2023 through January 2024 both online and in-store at Target, Walmart, and Nexcom military retail outlets.

The mugs were sold in 11 oz. and 16 oz. sizes in the following sets: Starbucks Holiday Gift Set with 2 Mugs, Starbucks Classic Hot Cocoa and Mug, Starbucks Peppermint and Classic Hot Cocoas and Mug, and Starbucks Holiday Blend Coffee and Mug.

There have been 12 incidents of the mugs overheating or breaking, resulting in 10 injuries such as burns, blisters, and a laceration.

Anyone with these mugs should immediately stop using them and either return them to the place of purchase or contact Nestlé USA for a full refund.

Consumers can receive a cash or gift card refund when they return the mug to the store where they were purchased, or receive a check from Nestlé USA.

Users will need to attach a photo of the mug or the gift set identifier code, complete the form, and hit send. A receipt will not be required to receive a full refund.
