Neosho man sentenced in Michael Hall kidnapping & murder case

SPRINGFIELD, Mo. — A Neosho man will spend the next three decades in prison for his role in the kidnapping and death of a Carthage man four years ago.

A federal judge Monday, sentenced James Gibson, 41, to 30 years in prison without parole. He pled guilty last year to conspiracy to commit kidnapping — and being felon in possession of a firearm.

FOUR STATES CRIME…

Gibson is one of six people convicted in the July 2020 kidnapping and murder of Michael Hall, 41. Hall’s body was found partially burned and decomposed on a property southwest of Joplin.

Gibson said he helped kidnap Hall – and while Hall was handcuffed and duct taped – Gibson assaulted him multiple times. Gibson also admitted to burning Hall with a blowtorch and, after he was dead, helped the other suspects clean up the evidence and move the body.

One suspect has already been sentenced. Two others will be sentenced this week.
