Neil Patrick Harris Recalls His Most Stressful Christmas with Twins Harper and Gideon

Neil Patrick Harris and David Burtka’s adorable family of four, which includes 7-year-old twins Harper and Gideon, is one of our all-time favorite celebrity clans. I mean, are they not the cutest?

In an exclusive video, the How I Met Your Mother star opened up about holidays with the twins, telling InStyle, “Kids around Christmas is just the best.”

“When you don’t have kids, and every year kind of rolls around and it’s the holidays again, it seems like a lot of work—and then when you have kids, that work just sort of pays off in kind of remarkable ways,” Harris explained.

Now that Harper and Gideon are older, holidays are a blast, but the actor is quick to assure us the season wasn’t always so carefree. One year in particular stands out to the father of two.

“It was stressful the first couple years, because you have expectations that this train set that you spent countless hours putting together, hoping that they would have some grand reaction … and then the kids came down and saw the train set and just shrugged at it and then tried to pull the tree down … Way more interested in breaking ornaments,” he shared.

Luckily, the fascination with ornament breaking burned out fast.

“Now that they’re old enough to appreciate the give and take of the holidays, it’s kind of extraordinary,” Neil explained.
