Neighbours boss Jason Herbison has teased that more older characters could return after Ian Smith was announced to be coming back as Harold Bishop.

It has been speculated that the retirement experience that Terese Willis and Jane Harris have been trying to get off the ground would tie in to Harold's return, and Herbison has teased that it could be the doorway to multiple comebacks.

He said (via Australia's TV Tonight): "Terese Willis has been on a journey this season to open a dream project, the retirement community Eirini Rising. She is redeveloping a section of the high school, and the two institutions will sit side by side, with the younger generation interacting with the seniors.

"I love creating new workplaces, and this one has the potential to fold in several members of the street. It's also been an ambition of mine to find an organic way to reintroduce some older cast members from yesteryear who I believe still have so much to offer."

He didn't state specifically whether Harold would end up in Eirini Rising, but he did give fans some new info.

"I can't say whether Harold ends up there, but he's definitely back to live in the suburb, which is a thrill for all of us," he teased.

Last week, it was announced that the cast of Neighbours will be coming to the UK next February to celebrate 40 years of the Aussie soap. They'll share never-before-heard stories and let fans know what it's like behind the scenes.

Neighbours releases new episodes from Mondays to Thursdays for free on Amazon Freevee in the UK and US. In Australia, the show airs from Mondays to Thursdays at 4pm on Channel 10, with a 6.30pm repeat screening on 10 Peach.
