Neighbors concerned about safety after shooting at Dayton party injures 2

Some Dayton residents are concerned for their safety after two people were hurt in a shooting Sunday morning.

Around 5:05 a.m. officers were dispatched to a building in the 1400 block of West Fifth Street in Dayton on reports of a shooting, according to a previous News Center 7 report.

As reported on News Center 7 at 5:00, Deanna Duncan said she is concerned for her kid’s safety after the gunfire rang out across the street from her house.

“I have a house full of kids, so their safety is my number one concern,” Duncan said. “Bullets don’t have names on it. It could very well fly into my house.”

Duncan said she was at work when the shooting happened, but her kids, ages 12 and 16, were home.

“My kids said they heard gunshots. They thought it came from further away. They had no clue it was so close to home,” Duncan said.

Public records obtained by News Center 7 indicate that the shooting happened at a party and at least one of the victims was shot inside.

Upon arrival, police located a 32-year-old man who was taken to a local hospital. He is currently in critical condition, but stable, according to a spokesperson from the Dayton Police Department.

A 29-year-old man was dropped off at a hospital in a car with non-life-threatening injuries, the spokesperson said.

News Center 7 obtained 911 calls that detail what people on scene saw and heard.

“I want to report a shooting, a bad shooting. You better get there now, because there’s a lot of people. I’m hearing a lot of gunshots. Just get there now,” one caller said.

The Dayton Police Department’s Violent Offender Unit is investigating this shooting.

“I absolutely do want to know what happened. And if they caught the people that, did it. I’m also concerned with, of course, who got hurt. I hope that they’re okay,” Duncan said.
