Neenah, Notre Dame, Lena girls headed to championship Saturday

(WFRV) – Local teams in divisions one, two, and five competed in the WIAA Girls Basketball State Tournament semifinals on Friday.

In division one, Neenah made their first state appearance since 2009 on Friday evening and the Rockets pulled out the 77-70 semifinal win against Hartford. Wisconsin’s Ms. Basketball winner and UConn commit Allie Ziebell scored 40 points – which marks the third highest points scored in a division one state game by a player ever. The Rockets will play Arrowhead on Saturday night in the division one state championship game as the Neenah girls will try to win their first gold ball since 1978.

In division two, the story continues for Notre Dame Academy. The #2 Tritons took down #3 Wauwatosa East 82-44 on Friday afternoon and now have a chance to write their names in the history books. For the third straight year, NDA will face #1 Pewaukee on Saturday in the division two state championship game. The Tritons are trying to become the first high school girls basketball team in the state to win four consecutive gold balls.

In division five, over 800 Lena fans came out to rally behind the #2 Wildcats as they defeated #3 Clear Lake 53-48 on Friday. In the program’s fourth trip to the state tournament, Lena will try to win its first gold ball in 44 years. The Wildcats will face #4 Albany/Monticello (25-3) in the division five championship game on Saturday.

Northeast Wisconsin will be represented by five teams in each division on Championship Saturday.

D4 – Laconia

D5 – Lena
