Nebraska CB Chris Jones out up to 6 months after knee injury
Nebraska’s top returning cornerback could miss the entire season because of a knee injury.
The school said senior-to-be Chris Jones will be out 4-6 months after suffering a torn meniscus in his left knee. Jones has already had surgery and won’t attend Big Ten media days later in the month. He was one of three Nebraska players scheduled to attend.
Jones had 37 tackles, three interceptions and 10 pass breakups in 2016. He was set to start at one corner position while Lamar Jackson is in line to start at the other corner position.
Nebraska’s defense returns six starters in 2017 — counting Jones — and will be relied upon heavily if an offense with just four returning starters can’t get in sync. The Huskers will have a new starting quarterback in Tanner Lee and must also replace its leading rusher and receiver from a year ago.
