Nearly 500 pounds of marijuana discovered in I-40 traffic stop

MEMPHIS, Tenn. — Nearly 500 pounds of marijuana was seized during a traffic stop on I-40 Wednesday night, according to the West Tennessee Drug Task Force.

Reports say agents with the 30th District criminal interdiction unit conducted a traffic stop on a Mercedes Sprinter van in Haywood County.

During an authorized search of the vehicle, agents say they noticed an inconsistency in the wall separating the front and rear of the van.

Agents X-rayed the wall, revealing packages of drugs hidden inside.

The WTDTF says the wall was dismantled, and 1/4 ton, or 491 pounds, of marijuana and THC edibles were discovered.

It was also determined through further investigation that the suspect has traveled from North Carolina to California, and was on his way back to North Carolina when he was stopped.
